e-Learning SSY

e-Learning SSY

Today, I had detailed discussions with Dilipji Deshmukh. He feels that new technologies need to be adopted not only in the area of marketing but in all aspects of SSY. The way SSY courses are offered also need to be reviewed with respect to new technologies. For example, the SSY course is strictly given to people who can attend the course in person at designated time and place. We need to have an option of e-learning as well, for millions of those people who can not attend our very few course offerings worldwide.

Dilipji believes that with modern technologies of audio/video recording and broadcast, the lectures can be delivered very effectively and in many cases some of the best lectures available in the form of recordings of Guruji Rishi Prabhakar himself. When the students are watching/listening to these recorded lectures, remote live support can be offered with tools like Skype. The work assignments that generally follow at the end of each lecture can also be more effectively evaluated using online learning platforms.

The first objection for such a thought is that "SSY can not be learned unless you experience it. The close interaction with Guru is mandatory." These objections can not be ruled out easily.

Dilipji feels a blended approach is worth exploring. About 6 or 7 lessons before initiation should be possible to deliver by e-learning. Any student from any part of the world can complete these 7 steps at their own convenient time. The student progress can be monitored by remote Guru by Skype. The student can submit the assignments online at the end of each step. Unless the student has successfully completed the previous step, he/she will not get access to next lesson. On completion of all 7 steps, the student can come in person to one of the SSY ashrams/gurukuls for initiation and the following lessons and a retreat.

We may need to reevaluate which lessons should be offered before an after initiation..That is a matter of detail.

But one thing is definite. e-learning is extremely scale-able. SSY will reach in every nook and corner of the world. There is already a shortage of good quality SSY teachers, the available teachers will be able to double their productivity, since half the course will get taught by e-learning.

Marketing Yoga

Marketing Yoga Lifestyle

Today we had interesting discussion at Kimaya hotel in Kothrud with Sandeepji Naik, Harshadji Shah and Preetima Mulik. We talked about marketing projects to promote SSY lifestyle. Here is what we discussed in brief:

Based ancient Hindu wisdom, SSY now has some extremely valuable knowledge for sharing with the world. Guruji dedicated his life to pass on this knowledge and skills to large community of disciples but now the knowledge is not spreading fast enough. One of the areas where we have opportunity to improve is building the marketing expertise and adopting the 21st century internet based marketing technologies to achieve rapid growth. There is one possibility worth exploring to build this expertise.

At College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), a course is being introduced for the final engineering students, to teach these marketing technologies called "Growth Engineering" (AKA Growth Hacking, Marketing Automation, Direct Marketing, Internet marketing etc. etc.) Prof Ashok Ranade and Prof Ashok Saraf lead the teaching efforts. Prof Saraf has been SSY champion for last 2 decades.

For the Growth Engineering course, students are required to complete one marketing project and the proposal is to offer the task of marketing SSY services as marketing projects to the students. Students will benefit by getting a experience of real life practical project and SSY in return will benefit of experimenting the new marketing technologies.

For execution of the projects, teams consisting of about 4 to 6 students, will be formed. One or two representatives from SSY will join the team. While students will do most of the technical work like web programming, SSY reps need to provide complete information about the service product to the and participate in all team exchanges. All students meet once a week for about 1 to 2 hours in a classroom for a presentation from the faculty. Each project team will then meet separately to execute their project steps at their own convenience.

The course is being offered by COEP and all the related costs are being taken care of by the COEP like; Faculty remuneration, Hall, Computer lab and Software subscriptions, books, printing etc. etc. SSY will not be charged any fees for participating in this course. However, there are some direct costs associated with execution of SSY marketing projects which will have to be born by SSY. These costs that SSY need to budget for are Website hosting and programming, Search Engine charges, travel and incidentals for the team members etc.

What SSY marketing projects  can be considered? We need specific well defined service products, like; various different courses (ISP, BSP, TTC, etc) or Ashram retreats etc. Based on suggestion from Radhama, Jagdeeshji and others following 2 projects are discussed y the group.

(1) ISP or Children's SSY:
(2) Peace Homes (Accommodations in Ashram as well as homes and nature)

Because of the limited time of the course the projects have to be of specific clearly defined service product and it can not be of general nature like overall marketing strategy of SSY/RSVK organization. However, after executing these 2 compact projects, the participants will gain good understanding for developing a strategy for the entire RSVK organization.

The course starts in first week of January 2016. Exact schedule will be known before end of this month. Tentatively the weekly classroom sessions will be on a workday (Monday through Thursday, preferably sometime between 3 and 6 pm.

Fwd: problems are goldmines

Peter Diamandis, the author of "Abundance" and CEO of XPrize foundation, has recently blogged, how he is helping Hospital CEOs to identify opportunities by using the teams of 20plus youngsters. The entire idea of forming "Strike Force" of 20+ to dig up ideas for hospitals is an excellent idea that we should follow at COEP for helping identify teams and ideas for IPC16.

the blog post follows:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The world's biggest problems are the world's biggest business opportunities.
I recently keynoted for a group of hospital CEOs.
For good reason, they are really concerned about their future. Their industry is ripe for disruption by a variety of exponential technologies.
Today's hospitals tend to be overly bureaucratic, inefficient, slow moving, expensive, confusing, and old-school in their processes and procedures.
Not surprisingly, they asked me what to do.
The conversation went something like, "We understand we need to change… but what problems do we solve first?"
My answer: Find a group of smart and curious 20-somethings, and give them the mission of interviewing your patients, employees and suppliers. Then have them catalogue and rate all of your problems.
Let me explain…

Hire 20-Somethings to Do Some Digging

I talk a lot about millennial entrepreneurs.
They are smart, hard working, and naïve – exactly the qualities you want in someone who is trying to reinvent a system.
They have no preconceived notions about the way the world (or a hospital, in this example) is supposed to work.
This gives them the ability to question everything – remember that "the day before something is a breakthrough, it's a crazy idea."
I have a team of 20-somethings that I call my "Strike Force" – you'll see why below – and I've been amazed by the brilliant ideas they come up with.
So where do you find your strike force? They may already work for you, or they might be grad students, or a group of local entrepreneurs.
What you're looking for is passion and curiosity. Ideally one or multiple teams of three to five individuals with a background in science, engineering, and an understanding of where technology is going.

Question Everything & Everyone

With your Strike Force in place, give them the following instructions.
I want you to interview our company's employees, suppliers and customers and document the major challenges we're having:
  • What is unduly hard to accomplish?
  • Where are we missing quality?
  • Where are we behind the competition?
  • What are our customers' biggest complaints?
  • Etc., etc…
Give them 4-6 weeks to literally walk around your company and examine everything. Tell them to talk to all of your employees, patients, servicemen, visitors, volunteers, staff, and so on. Everybody. Let them sit in different venues and observe how your business operates. Challenge them to think about how each and every process could be done better or differently. Make sure to emphasize that they have NO LIMITATIONS as to the ideas they can come up with – this is critical.
In summary, their goal is to document your company's biggest problems… question everything.

Catalogue, Prioritize and Select

Next, ask them to come together, compile their findings, and write up their top 10 - 20 recommendations.
For each recommendation, rate them with regard to:
  • Financial impact to your company
  • Competitive impact for your company
  • Value of the solution as an entrepreneurial endeavor
  • Ease of implementation (time and money)

Fund the Best Ideas and Best Team(s)

Based on my experience doing this, you'll be pleasantly surprised with their innovative attitude (perhaps naïveté and outsider perspective) and ability to put their finger on the biggest gold mines in your company.
Your goal is next to mine these gold mines.
Pick the brightest members of the Strike Force and fund them to develop the solution either internal to your business, or as outside entrepreneurial endeavors. Either way, you win.

Strike Force Guiding Principles

Here are three guiding principles to help guide your efforts:
  1. Listen to your customers, and the data they generate: The most successful, agile and sustainable companies are customer-centric at their core. They vehemently care about their customers' experience and are constantly trying to improve it. Start collecting more data from them on your own – what did they like, what did they not like, how could you improve your service? You'll be surprised to find how bright your own customers are when it comes to discovering problems in your business and ways to solve them.
  2. Start from a blank slate, then rebuild from first principles: If you were going to start your business tomorrow, how would you do it? Which services would you cancel, which would you maintain? Which would you reinvent? Really try to understand at its core what your business is and what it could be. Reason from first principles about what is possible and craft a vision that you can execute.
  3. Experiment, fail, then experiment again: Once you have a vision, you have to get comfortable experimenting with it, and probably failing a few times. Run 30- or 60-day experiments to test new ideas. You'll be surprised to see that this is actually motivating and exciting to your employees.

Prioritizing Innovation

Disrupting yourself isn't just a thought exercise. It's not a rebranding. And it is certainly not something that is easy or simple to do.
It's going to take some time, so the key is that you have to really commit to innovation.
You have to be open-minded and strong-willed at the same time. You have to be able to motivate your employees when experiments fail, and rein them in if they are going too far off the entrepreneurial cliff.
Your Strike Force will mine your problems for gold nuggets, but it's YOU who will ultimately greenlight the effort to reinvent your business.
It's a challenging task – but disrupting and reinventing your business is the only way to survive during these exponential times.

Health Coach: Rishika Bapat

My mission is, To start a global conversation about the art of health!

We’ve been studying, scientifically, how to be healthier for generations. Yet, as you know, cases of heart disease, cancer, diabetes among others, are on the rise exponentially. Not to mention we have also invented a few new illnesses while we were at it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro-science, being an Engineer by education. However, unfortunately, our society has developed a really bad habit of boiling everything down to a formula, or in this case, a pill.
We have become incredibly proficient at numbing ourselves with pills, or sugar and alcohol, or just by being plain busy. In fact, the ‘I’m too busy’ excuse is the smartest one of them all, because it gives us some sense of self-righteousness, and validates this ignorance on our part. The following life-altering quote by the Dalai Lama sums it up perfectly, and is what started my own health journey:
“Man surprised me mosThe-Dalai-Lama-Imaget about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
-The Dalai Lama
After naturally healing myself when I found no medical solution for an illness, I delved deep into the study of the art of health. The more I learned, the clearer it became that there was a gaping hole in today’s health care system. This statement rightly portrays the situation:
wendellberry“People are fed by the food industry which pays no attention to health, and are treated by the Health Industry, which pays no attention to food.”
-Wendell Berry, Novelist and Poet
It isn’t all bad news though, luckily we have a new layer of caregivers popping up, made up of holistic and drug-less practitioners because of this dire need. The video below has Dr. Oz discussing this need with Joshua Rosenthal, the founder of theInstitute of Integrative Nutrition.
And so began my journey, and I decided to pursue my certification as a Health Coach at the institute. Through my training, I had a chance to learn about a hundred dietary theories, and network with some amazing people who also considered themselves part of this revolution.
Our lecturers included renowned doctors, scientists, and authors, who are leading researchers in this paradigm transforming field of integrative nutrition and medicine, such as Dr. Mark Hyman, MD; Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD; Dr. Joel Fuhrman, MD; Dr. Andrew Weil, MD; Joe Cross; Dr. David Katz, MD; Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD; David Wolfe and many others.
Knowing that I have their decades of research and knowledge to stand on provided me the confidence that I was indeed on the right path of discovery.
MY STORY
To tell you a little bit about my background, I am an IT Project Manager by profession, an Engineer by education, a student of Yoga, and a Health Coach by passion.
I got into the field of self-development and continuous improvement, interestingly, after a process improvement training held at my workplace. When I started looking at continuous improvement in the business processes, I started seeing similarities in life. This is why I absolutely love what I do in both my career and my passion, as the foundation for both is constant continuous improvement.
You can find out more about my personal health awakening here.

Peace villages in U.S and Canada

Setting up Peace villages in U.S and Canada

article by Rishi Prabhakar
(c) Facebook group "Peace Village, Ottawa"

What are peace villages?

These are complexes setup outside different cities for creating spaces for community living based on generosity and openness.
They will be places where there will be plenty of work for hundreds of people to do Organic Agriculture, run educational institutions with accent on joyful education for children. The school also will act as production centers for many artistic and high technology products. They will run as model municipalities with means for grass roots participation in the affairs of the community through parliaments consisting of 36 families or 36 members at any level of the hierarchy

Size of the village

The size of the village will start with about 3000 acres of land expandable to about 30,000 acres.

How is it to be financed and operated

The land will be owned by a company initially formed for the purpose. There will be a board of directors who will initiate the project with finances. About half of the land will be operated as a common facility land. Other half will be operated as individually owned plots by the directors who will sell to others as housing plots.
Directors will slowly pass on the operations of the common facilities zone to the municipality which includes all the members who own the land in the municipality. This transition may take up to 15 years.
It will start operating as any municipality after the setting up period.

Starting issues

We require co-operation from the county in the following matters:
1. Classification of the land for development.
a. Some areas are for school and art workshops and university.
b. Some areas for parks and recreation.
c. some areas for shopping complex
d. Some areas housing
e. Some areas for roads
f. some areas for industry
g. Some areas for resorts, hotels, health complex and community offices

Purchasing Land

Normally land becomes very valuable around such developments and makes it very expensive to expand later. So we need to start as big as possible initially with future requirements in mind.
Investors in land and development has to be duly paid for in the process.

Benefits to the County

The Peace village will operate with the motive of making the county rich in many ways:
a. Provide employment for anyone desiring to participate as a partner in the business - shifting the attitude from an employment seeker to an Entrepreneurs.
b. Providing love and care for the elderly by providing community participation in schools . They will be with children in teaching and play activities and learn many crafts to make the place beautiful. They will be honored for their wisdom and provided an opportunity to lead from the back.
c. Women will be certified and trained in child upbringing and given special privileges as mothers. They will be bringing up children with the active assistance of other members and community members who eat together like in a Kibbutz. They cook collectively and lessen the burden o cooking. Each small community of 36 families will have their own spaces for agriculture, collective residence, collective day care for small children and Kitchen. Young Mothers will spend time mothering, playing and educating the child rather than going to work for earning.
d. Every one in the village will be supported by a group of 36 to grow and be a useful participant. We are living as a large family with intimate relationships and support so everyone is counted and made important. Each group is a local parliament in itself and self supporting with care for all. They interact with other groups through representation in higher bodies. All these bodies at any level of hierarchy will not exceed 36 members for the sake of making sure that everyone's voice is heard.
Benefits to the country
Social security has become a topic of great concern and expense.
Issues like unemployment, uneven distribution of wealth, Health care, child care, economic development are eating at the roots of democracies with no solutions at national levels.
These issues have to be handled at as small or micro level as possible.
Big parliaments where people are using votes rather than wisdom and care are the downfall of large unworkable present day democratic systems. Occupy wall street is the beginning of a grass roots revolution for a more sane system of governance at grass roots.
In the peace village, forums of 36 does most of the job at a micro level. What requires a bigger job is referred to the next small body which never exceeds 36 members.
A group of 36 families can easily see to the welfare of all its members. They are big enough to take care collectively of all their children, aged, young and vibrant. Nuclear families of today are too weak to nurture a child. As children go out, elders are left helpless. The present scenario only creates lonely uncared persons at all levels leading to a society of depressed.

Peace Homes

Peace Homes

The concept of Peace Homes was very well thought out by Rishi Prabhakarji. A complete constitution was drafted of how to manage a Peace Homes and is listed in the Face Book post at the Group page of "Peace Village - SSY Ottawa" at https://www.facebook.com/groups/peacevillage.ottawa/permalink/482055305215730/

Every sadhak (Yoga practitioner) has an opportunity to share with other sadhaks using this format and become a social entrepreneur. In the last few years, the internet technologies have made possible several revolutionary concepts in "Shared economy", like Airbnb, Uber, Ride share, ToolLibrary and hundreds of other such ventures. If we use the power of new shared economy technologies to the concept of "Peace Homes", then there is huge potential to create very successful new social entrepreneurial ventures which in turn will enable to spread peace across the world.

A complete Peace Home constitution was proposed by Rishi Prabhakar, which is copied below. For further details and engagement in this project join Facebook group "Peace Village, Ottawa"  https://www.facebook.com/groups/peacevillage.ottawa

SSY Peace Home Constitution V4/05-07-13

by Rishi Prabhakar 2:20am Jul 7, 2013

What is a Peace Home?

1. It is a Home where the owner is also a guest and a host.
2. Whoever comes as a guest, knows how to be a host.
3. Every guest respects the necessary privacy required for the long-term host.
4. Food is brought and prepared collectively. It is not a hotel to serve the guest.
5. Anybody is welcome to use common halls, verandahs and available rooms, caring for other guests. 6. Guests may be provided with mattresses and woolen blankets wherever possible. Bedspreads must be brought by guests like the way they bring their clothes.
7. Bathrooms and kitchen are taken care of by all the guests including cleaning and maintenance. 8. Guests should not expect services of a cleaner.
9. There is usually a facility for washing your clothes and drying them. Guest should responsibly use washing machines etc when available.
10. Guests are expected to get up and be ready by at-least 7 am and participate in daily sadhana of Asanas, Pranayams, Meditation, Bhajans etc and share the task of providing food.
11. At least two or more families are residing and hosting so that one of them is always present to welcome guests.
12. Guests make voluntary donations for the food shelter and love they receive and take responsibility for improving the facilities for guests.
13. There are lockers for keeping valuable things (and the personal suitcases, where possible) of guests.

Advantages of Peace Homes

1. You are not a lonely family without much help or interactions with neighbors. You have other loving families with you.
2. By extending love with the other families, all kinds of facilities will multiply for you and your family • Vehicles like cars and motorcycles. • You can host a number of guests without strain. • There is always somebody to look after your Home and you can very profitably use it as a Guest House, (even though voluntarily) • It is a very economic and loving environment where people from other towns and around the world can feel at Home. • You yourself will have large spare facilities for yourself all around the world. • To get all these benefits, you have to learn to expand yourself to include more people as family. This will happen through ‘SSY Nobody’ sadhana. For enjoying much bigger possibilities, please see SSY Peace Village Group on Face Book.
3. You can start collective businesses and provide jobs for all people in the Peace Home and extra for others in community. Businesses like. a) Play Homes and crèche for children. b) LKG and UKG schools. c) Old age Home. d) Naturopathy- massage and back ache relief centers. e) Beauty care centre. f) Catering food to parties. - Because we have a large kitchen and food storage facility. g) Party hall.etc. The list is infinite.

How to create a Peace Home?

1. The owner host must find a suitable family to look after the Peace Home and provide them at least one private room for the family to reside.
2. The owner host can raise donations for Annaprasad for Peace Home.
3. Peace Homes can be created by like minded families living together by renting or buying big bungalows in cities for extra facilities for more people to join. It will become like community living. Another alternative is to buy or rent a series of apartments and make the thing into a Peace Home. Ideal one is a Big Bungalow; preferably on the outskirt of the city. But the need for such Peace Homes in the down town area is also important. We can ask Government to allot land for ‘Peace Homes’ like the way they give it to Schools, Temples, and Playgrounds and to organized associations, like the YMCA, Social clubs

Natural Evolution of Peace Homes

1. The more the number of the guests that want to use the facility of Peace Home, the richer it gets.
2. The guests will automatically bring more facilities for guests to stay.
3. The guests are given a customs clearance on how the Peace Home works so that they can convert their own Homes into Peace Homes. This is how Peace Home revolution evolves.
4. Register yourself as a Peace Home in Peace Home registry in “SSY Peace Homes” groups in FB (Face Book) so that people everywhere can become aware of the existence of the Peace Home.
5. Put a sign- board in the corner of the street directing people towards your Peace Home. Use the standard Peace Home logo for easy identification.
6. Register yourself with the Police and other required offices so that you get quick help in case of un-understanding intruders.
7. It is better to start living together with known people and families. As the Peace Home becomes strong, extra families for living together can be inducted easily.
8. People can become members of the Peace Home association just like in ‘Couch Surfing’on the web. Identification of the guest becomes very easy and Guests comments on the Peace Home will also be available on website for the members. A membership identification card will ease the interactions as they become familiar with the custom of Peace Homes.
9. A person need not be a member of the Peace Home club to use the facilities. They only have to be given a thorough custom clearance for staying in the Peace Home and they have to arrive at a particular time to register themselves with the Peace Homes for clearance.
10. Members can make prior reservation so that they are given a priority accommodation of the highest standard available at the Peace Home.
11. Organizational Help Until the web site of SSY World is created with facilities like "Couch Surfing”, people can become members of ‘SSY Peace village’ or "SSY Peace Home” group in Face Book and start receiving web support.
12. They can join and start living in a nearby Peace Home along with like- minded Peacehomians. They can also get support to go and stay in various Peace Homes around the world. It will make your stay and food very easy, economical and establish worldwide camaraderie. If you can offer your Home to be a Peace Home and you are looking for families to stay with you, this website or face book group ‘SSY Peace Homes’ will help.
13. You may encounter some difficulty with some vegetarian and non-vegetarian food in kitchen until two kitchens are available for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Keep it vegetarian until then.

Legal Structure

For long time residents and creators of these Homes, a legal structure is required on investments and sharing of contributions by guests. These will be given to the members on request. Laws are different in different countries and have to be appropriately formulated.
Hint 1- Convert that Peace Home property into a trust -With main participants as trusties.
Hint 2- You get back the investments by selling the property to the trust for a prize which The trust can pay back at a convenient pace from the earnings.
Hint 3- Earnings to the trust can come from the various sources like:
a) Every permanent resident pays rent and food charges as maintenance fees.
b) Annaprasad donations from guests and donations.
c) Donations from guest.
d) Renting the place for programs and parties.
e) Catering foods to other parties with our large facilities. Providing jobs for the women who are residents for the Peace Homes.
f) Open a day care centre for children and do Matrumandir as an enterprise by the residents.
g) Income from old age home.

Lucky Iron

Lucky Iron

Iron deficiency is a serious health issue for a large population living in poverty.
Here is an experiment done for Cambodia. Can be repeated in India.

The Problem: In Cambodia, much of the population lives on a diet of fish and rice and so suffers from iron deficiency, leading to anemia and other serious health conditions. The simple solution is to cook a small piece of iron in the same pot with a meal for 10 minutes, providing 75% of the iron a family needs. The dilemma was that people were happy to use the iron slab as a doorstop but wouldn’t toss it into the cooking pot.

The Solution: Fashion the small piece of iron into the shape of a fish, a cultural symbol of hope and good fortune in Cambodia.

Initial Results: After nine months of trials and tests, a 55% drop in iron deficiency was recorded. Additionally, the project is sustainable, featuring recyclable materials and adding jobs in the local community to package the iron fish.

The Design: The Lucky Iron Fish was designed by Canadian science graduate Dr. Christopher Charles, who traveled to Cambodia in 2008 on a research project.

came for Rs 750 each. For the controller, LCD and wires, another Rs 2,000 were needed. The college bore the expenses,” he said.
Citing a future possibility of the implementation of a digital glove for both hands, Kathwate said, “With two hands, one can make as many as 1,024 commands. It will expand the library of words manifolds. There will be nothing impossible for the deaf and mute. Addition of a camera in the system can utilise the facial expression in an appropriate way to convert it into words. In our daily lives too, we can interact withpeople, who speak different languages, using this glove.”
His project was guided by Dr C Y Patil, Assistant Professor, InstrumentationDepartment, CoEP. On April 26, Kathwate will present his paper at the InternationalConference for Electronics, Computer Science and Information Technology, which is taking place at Hyatt, Pune.
“I wish to enhance the quality of these gloves and introduce it in maximum schools in the coming year,” says Kathwate.
Commenting on the project, Dr C Y Patil, professor at instrumentation department, CoEP, said, “Kathwate’s digital glove is a pioneering attempt. Similar attempts have been made outside India, but the deaf and mute people in the country hasn’t seen a final product like this. It will be beneficial not just for the users but also for researchers who wish to bring some change in the lives of others. Many a times a college projectends right after its presentation as there is no practical use. But that won’t be the case here.”
